Bologna opens this region, but it does not stand in for Modena, Parma, Ferrara or Romagna. Use these areas to choose a future stay or one deliberate excursion.
Bologna and the Apennines
Begin with Bologna for fresh pasta, mortadella, market streets and portico walks. The surrounding hills and Apennines offer a separate countryside setting.
Give the city its own first day. A rural meal needs a planned journey and enough time for the return.
Modena and Reggio Emilia
Follow the Via Emilia toward balsamic traditions, cheese and different ways of serving regional breads and filled pasta. Town centres and producer visits offer different experiences.
Choose either a city day or a reserved production visit as the anchor. Confirm the location and transport before booking.
Parma and Piacenza
Parma invites a closer look at cured ham, cheese and its own pasta traditions. Piacenza brings another local table, rather than simply repeating Parma’s menu.
Pick a base and explore locally. Rural producers may be far from a railway station, so check the final part of the journey.
Ferrara
Ferrara deserves a city chapter of its own, with squash-filled pasta and local bread among the starting points. Combine one meal with a manageable walk through the centre.
Let a short local menu introduce the city. A Bologna pasta checklist is not the right plan for every town.
Ravenna, Forlì and Cesena
Move into Romagna for its own flatbread, pasta and town traditions. Ravenna’s cultural visits and a meal are already enough to build a satisfying day.
Keep cultural reservations and lunch in the same town. Add another city only when the journey still leaves time to enjoy both.
Rimini and the Adriatic coast
The coastal chapter connects piadina, seafood and a different daily rhythm. Inland Romagna and the waterfront should each have their own time.
Read the seasonal menu and plan around your chosen base. A beach day, a hill town and several long meals do not need to share one timetable.
Build a useful food day
Choose a base, one principal meal and one cultural or landscape stop. Check the transport between them, then book the experience that cannot be improvised. A city lunch and a producer visit are different kinds of day.
