Begin around Piazza Dante. Have a coffee and one pastry if you want breakfast, then walk toward Pignasecca for produce stalls, food shops and the rhythm of an ordinary shopping street. Stall activity varies; enjoy the neighbourhood even when the full market is not operating.
Continue toward Piazza del Gesù Nuovo. Choose one church or museum interior only if its current access and your interests fit. You can also keep the morning entirely outdoors.
Lunch · Choose your main event
Follow the historic streets toward Piazza San Domenico Maggiore and the decumani. Choose either a sit-down pizza or a traditional pasta lunch. Reserve when a restaurant accepts bookings; otherwise keep a nearby alternative and allow time for the queue.
A modest morning snack leaves room for this meal. You do not need a cuoppo, fried pizza and a full pizza on the same day. Ask about the price and ingredients of any special before ordering.
Afternoon · San Gregorio Armeno and the Duomo
Walk along San Gregorio Armeno, then continue toward the Duomo area. Craft shops and busy lanes reward a slow pace. Keep any booked interior as the afternoon’s one fixed commitment, allowing for access checks and breaks.
Finish with a coffee, a small sweet or simply a rest. If the waterfront is your priority, shorten the old-town visit and use public transport toward the western centre instead of adding a long return walk at the end.
